The area around Lagrasse boasts a fabulous variety of Flora and Fauna - the village pharmacy can help identify these. An occasional wild boar can be spotted in the fields around the village. During much of the year thousands of pink flamingoes and other bird species reside on the wetlands outside Narbonne.
A vast range of other leisure activities is available further afield with golden beaches on the nearby Mediterranean coast stretching North and South for hundreds of kilometers. In winter, the ski slopes of the Pyrenees can be accessed quickly and easily.
Of the many historical sights available in every direction, nearby
highlights include the magnificent fortress at Carcassonne, the many mountaintop Cathar castles including Queribus and Peyrepertruse and the Abbey of Fontfroide. Spend an afternoon trying to solve the mystery of Rennes Le Chateau or sampling the delicious sparkling wines of Limoux.
Day trips to the beautiful Catalan seaside town of Collioure on the French side of the border with Spain, or to Moliere's home town of Pezenas are not to be missed. Drive over the border to Spain and visit the Salvador Dali Museum at Figueras or the artist’s home at Cadeques.
